This is how the cover of my joecell looked like when I tried vinegar as an electrolyte. That's why I made the top plate from polycarbonate. I think I will use baking soda or KOH as the electrolyte in my electrolyzer.

I don't think Vinegar was the only cause of the cracks. The threads on Pipe style threaded fittings are tapered. It is very easy to over tighten the fitting which causes great side pressure. By looking at the picture, all the cracks are radiating from the fitting hole.

From what I've read, Baking Soda can cause corrosion on the plates. And when used in an electrolyer, it gradually becomes NaOH anyway.
