A rotating magnetic core surrounded by a pulsating magnet field forms an electric motor. Here's a speculation from me; I don't remember ever reading this:The earth is a giant electric motor. What happens if the magnetic field of the core reverses? The motor reverses! I flew commercial from Edmonton to Seattle one clear day. Looking down at the mountain ranges they looked just like the carpet in the cartoon where the dog peels out on the carpet runner and it bunches up behind him. This is what the mountain ranges looked like. What I was told in school was that the ranges were pushed up over eons by seismic activity. Yet every ridge of broken layers of rock looked just like every other ridge and the valleys were nearly parallel with each other. They didn't come up one at a time inch by inch. If the earth's magnetic field reverses get ready for a bumpy ride. Maybe.
